2024-2025 Rising 7th and 8th Grade Academic Advising Information

Overview of Middle School Curriculum

Each student at Sandburg Middle School will take seven classes each semester. Five of the seven classes are required for all students: English, Math, Social studies, Science, and Physical education. The remaining two classes can be a combination of yearlong and/or semester classes from the following departments: Visual or Performing Arts, Theatre, Business and Information Technology, Family and Consumer Science, World Languages, Engineering, and General electives.

Sandburg Middle School also provides classes for our students that receive Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Level IV, Special Education, and English Learner (EL) 1-4 services.

Rising 9th Grade Curriculum Night

Mount Vernon HS Curriculum Night will take place on Wednesday, January 3rd at 5:30-7:30 pm at Mount Vernon High School.

West Potomac HS Curriculum Night will take place on Tuesday, January 9th at 6 pm at West Potomac High School.

Special Note for Rising 7th Graders:

As required by the Code of VA, all students entering 7th grade and 12th grade are required to receive specific immunizations prior to the beginning of school.  All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older, and Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.

Rising 9th Grade at West Potomac High School Information

West Potomac High School and Sandburg Middle School counselors will meet during their Health/PE class periods.  Please refer to the West Potomac HS Academic Advising Page for additional resources and support. Rising 9th Grade at Mount Vernon High School Information

Mt. Vernon High School and Sandburg Middle School counselors will meet during the Mount Vernon High School Rising 9th Grade field trip that will take place on January 29.  Please refer to the Mount Vernon HS Academic Advising Page for additional resources and support.
