Operation Clothe the Homeless had an amazing week collecting, washing, and packaging clothes! Mr. Dewar and his Science 7 students make their way around the Sandburg campus as part of their lesson. Mr. Rodriguez and the Pounding Paws Drum Circle have fun after school. Ms. Kang's class had a ball playing the NF Text Structures game with Ms. Price in the library! These students are hard at work constructing persuasive essays in Ms. Merali's class. Congratulations to all of our Sandburg students who won Student of the Quarter awards! Students listen intently as Mr. Barker addresses the students and staff. Students and staff in the gardening club do an excellent job beautifying the campus! Mr. Schmeelcke's students are proud of themselves for completing the Halloween periodic table review. These students work in cooperative teams to review for a test in Ms. Lutzker's class. Students in Ms. Swoope's social skills group worked on a Halloween themed feelings activity. Students move around Ms. Crilley's room combining like terms to solve a math lab. Ms. Price facilitates a lesson for Ms. Tourtellotte's class teaching genre, mood, and tone. The Builder's club finishes packing 30 boxes of clothes, school supplies and toys to be sent to kids in need. Spirit Week kicks off with Career Day at Sandburg! Is there a doctor in the house? The BE Club encourages positive character development and academic success. Mr. Wright's English class feathered this bird from their text with parts of speech and key quotes. The crayfish are coming to life in Mr. LaBue's science class! CT Leaders across Region 3 gather for professional learning at Sandburg. Ms. Jones' FACS class enjoys a tasty treat after turning in all their impact aid forms. Ms. Morthole's students make great use of a common space to work on a collaborative project. Mrs. Morrow-Smith's FAST Math students help each other learn order of operations. Ms. Slanoc's homeroom class develops a wordle from the Bravery lesson. Ms. Watkins takes time out to work one-on-one with students. This Action Literacy class is excited about the new books they just received! Students in Ms. Middleton's Spanish class work in collaborative teams on a speaking assignment. This group of students works diligently to be the first team to compete the combining like terms challenge. Learning is happening throughout the entire building! This Wednesday warm-up is a classic way to review parts of speech. AVID Students visit Howard University. A big “thank you” goes out to a few of our picture day parent volunteers! English 7 students are focused on a writing assignment. Our Eco Club is an action collaborating on a new initiative! The cast and crew of The Trial of the Wicked Witch did an amazing job! The audience actively participates as the jury for the Wicked Witch's trial! The witch may still have a few tricks up her sleeve! Students from the Man to Man and DIVAS leadership groups deliver Conflict Resolution Lessons to Sandburg 8th grade students. The Debate Club argues the merits of tardy sweeps! ESOL Civics students use Michael Jackson's original songs to make connections to the Bill of Rights. Students in Mr. LaBue's science class use turkeys to illustrate vocabulary terms for equatic ecosystems. Sandburg Staff is excited to introduce students to Learning Ally resources. Students in Ms. Lutzer's class work in cooperative teams during this math partner practice activity. Ms. DeLeon's class conducts research for their cube projects. Ms. Esposito reinforcing student behavior. Ms. Larkins-Brown conducts the first information session for the National Junior Honor Society. Thank you to the amazing Sandburg PTA members for providing a Nacho Bar for Sandburg staff. Sandburg Staff members come together to collaborate in the new CT Meeting Room. Sandburg Panthers have many talents! Ms. Jones shows students how to use the sewing machines to make aprons. Research begins on the NHD Project with a lesson by the librarian on The Guided Inquiry Design Safety comes first in Mr. LaBue's science class Sandburg teachers attend a community teacher appreciation dinner. Staff members receive recognition awards from ATS! These special students won the opportunity to share lunch with Mr. Barker! Ms. Thomas' students collaborate to identify plot elements in different fairytales. The Sandburg Literacy Team used a Causal Factor Chart to determine our most impactful driver for our school at a recent PD. Ms. Tourtellotte uses Kahoot to review the novel, "The Outsiders". Congratulations to these AVID students who have the top 5 GPA's in their class. Senator Surovell stopped in talk to Ms. Hill's civic's class. Community members serve as strong role models for the Man to Man Mentor Group. Miss Jones FACS7 classes learn about copyright and fair use in the library. The DIVAS leadership group develop the habit of dressing professionally on Wednesdays. Our male administrators make a sharp team! Students participate in the snowmen in a globe algebra review in Ms. Lutzer's class. Teamwork in Adaptive PE helps to get all of our kids involved! Today’s #RedskinsFITT workshop was all about getting in 6️0 minutes of play through a variety of fun exercises!
